Among the four main forms of existence of life recognized in Jainism, which one of the following is not included ?
Jainism recognises four states of existence (gatis) into which a soul (jiva) can be born according to its karma: deva (heavenly beings), manushya (humans), tiryancha (animals, plants and all other living beings, from one-sensed to five-sensed) and naraki (beings of hell). Liberation (moksha) is possible only from the human state, which is why human birth is valued so highly.
Yaksha is not a separate gati; yakshas are counted among the vyantara class of devas. In Jain art, yakshas and yakshis appear as attendant deities (shasana devatas) of the Tirthankaras, but they belong within the deva category.
